Hiking in Kananaskis Country

Yesterday was a beautiful day here in Calgary and area so we headed out to West Bragg Creek, about a 45 minute drive from home, with the intention to snowshoe the Snowshoe Hare Trail.

Wilco’s a great traveller. He lays down in the back of our SUV and barely makes a peep. Quite a change from our last Golden, Kembali. She disliked the travelling and would whine, drool and ultimately, throw-up.

Upon arrival we checked out the trail head which was well-groomed and packed and better for boot hiking. So we left the snowshoes in the car and headed out. The trail is 5.5 km and took us about 1.5 hours to complete. An easy hike with some climbs and icy patches.

Wilco enjoyed running through the deep snow in search of snowballs we threw for him. Somehow he manages to dig through the snow and come out with the snowball or another treasure like an old apple core. Wilco seems to have boundless energy only taking a rest when back in the vehicle to head home.

It was a wonderful day! It was great to get out of the city and have a change of pace from the off leash parks and the multitude of dogs and humans.

  1. Thanks very much! It was a great day. Wilco is looking more like a dog and less like a puppy every day. He is so happy and goofy – he makes us smile.
